HighTechElec Transition Year Work Experierence Programme

The CEIA HighTechElec TY work experience programme, which is a collaboration between CEIA, Tyndall National Institute, UCC, MTU and CEIA member companies, is scheduled to take place again in 2025

The week-long programme will consist of careers talks, hands-on workshops, visits to education & research institutes, and a day in a CEIA member company.

The 2025 HighTechElec TY programme will take place from 10 – 14 March 2025.

Applications for the programme are open from 4th to 29th November, and places will be confirmed by 20th December 2025.

Please note that attendance for the full week is mandatory, and up-to-date school insurance will have to be submitted in advance of the programme.

    CEIA.ie represents Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) companies in the Cork region. The demand for highly skilled Electronic Engineering graduates is growing steadily both from the major multinational electronics corporations located here and the indigenous Irish electronics industry. Ireland hosts some of the best electronics companies in the world and in order for these companies to grow and expand we need to ensure a supply of highly skilled, capable and innovative graduates.

    Tyndall National Institute

    Tyndall National Institute (University College Cork) is one of Europe’s leading centres for ICT research and development. Tyndall has over 450 researchers, engineers, scientists, students and support staff focused on ICT research in a state-of the-art national research facility. Tyndall’s research is guided by finding solutions for the needs of society in Communications, Energy, Environment and Health through the development of new technology in the fields of Photonics, Micro/Nanoelectronics and Microsystems.

    The HighTechElec TY Work Experience Programme is a collaboration between CEIA, Tyndall, UCC, CIT and CEIA member companies, developed to give TY students an insight into the high tech careers open to them in industry and academia. Participating students will undertake a week of physics, electronics and technology based workshops, lectures, career talks, and industry placement, culminating in an innovation competition – the TechnoDen. Through meeting and working with scientists and engineers, students will get firsthand experience of the choice of careers available to them. This unique structured one-week programme will provide a positive experience for pupils genuinely interested in taking up a science or engineering career.
